| Rapid-prototyping and product development case study: BAE Systems Benches |
Tekdata is no stranger to challenging projects; one of the latest for the company involved the assembly of a suite of LRU (line replaceable unit) test benches for the testing of Typhoon and Tornado aircrafts, commissioned by aerospace heavyweight BAE Systems.
Key features of this project were the need to include an old design with multiple upgrades and having to deal with over 5,000 wires in a 5 panel bay system. Screening onto a variety of interface connectors also had to be done and the Tekdata team had to work with schematic drawings.
Deadlines were relatively tight, with the first bench required within 18 weeks and the second one seven weeks thereafter. But Tekdata was able to deliver successfully, thanks to two 12.5 hour shifts 5 days a week for sixteen weeks. Near-perfect final results were achieved, serious deadlines were met... and another client was satisfied.
