Case study: Ethernet test cable for the Royal Navy's new destroyer
Tekdata Interconnect has over 35 years of experience supplying world class defence and aerospace companies globally with interconnection solutions. A recent example is the provision of an ethernet test cable system for a new naval radar system supplied to the Royal Navy on the latest type of destroyer.

Our engineers, working closely with the clientís design and manufacturing centres, utilised COTS technology whilst ensuring the high levels of reliability required for such a vital part of the shipís detection and defence capabilities.

The multi-function radar also forms a vital part of the PAAMS weapon system employed on the new Type 45 destroyer. This system provides surveillance tracking, dedicated tracking and anti jamming capability and will be at the vanguard of the Navy for many years.

Tekdata is proud to be involved in such a prestigous program. We have again demonstrated our ability to utilise our defence experience and our class leading expertise in design-to-cost by providing another successful interconnection solution for a highly demanding application.

GE Medical and Tekdata: A long-lasting business relationship
Tekdata enjoyed considerable success working with the GE Healthcare/GE Medical systems in the UK in the late 80s/early 90s. We designed all the cable assemblies for a range of whole body and heart scanners.

The original designs have since been superseded with new brain and body scanners. However we continue to supply service parts to maintain a worldwide installation of almost 2,000 scanners. In the late 90s, Tekdata also worked on a Black Belt project to increase the MTBF from 2.7 years to 7+ years, focussing on the complex Detector Head harnesses, which was achieved successfully.

As an officially appointed ëStrategic Supplierí to GE Medical, Tekdataís approach to quality is strongly influenced by the Six Sigma concept.

RoHS implementation: Tekdata is a front-runner!
A European directive to reduce the environmental impact of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) by imposing further Restrictions on the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (RoHS) will be implemented on 1 July.

Tekdata is fully committed to reducing the use of lead, mercury and other substances as per the RoHS. We have identified all plastics and solders currently used, and our suppliers have been asked to recommend alternatives.

We have tested and are introducing lead-free solders. Tekdata has a target of becoming 90%+ compliant by the end April (some industries, such as aerospace and defence, are excluded from this directive).
