Typhoon benches upgrade push Tekdata's order book over £11M mark

Tekdata Interconnections is working on an upgrade project for BAE Systems for the Tornado and Typhoon aircraft testing. This project involves complete new test rigs comprising a series of individual test benches all linked together. This enables the individual Line Replaceable units (LRUs) to be individually tested as a system prior to installation within an aircraft.

It’s a complex project management exercise to get all the individual benches completed within target timescales. To summarize the key points of this project:

  • Tekdata is assembling 10 benches of varying complexity totalling 33 19inch wide full height racks;
  • An estimated 60,000 terminations will need to be made and tested, including 20,000 screen terminations;
  • 40 different styles and sizes of wire are being used.

Approximately 800 different component types will be required. This creates a logistical dilemma, with conflicting priorities between the customer’s timeline on one hand and material availability on the other. But for the staff of Tekdata Interconnections, who has a wealth of experience in managing and delivering complex projects, this represents yet another stimulating challenge.
