Tekdata takes off with Airbus A380

The Airbus A380 'superjumbo' is the largest civil aircraft ever built. Due to enter service by the end of 2006, it is the world's first twin-deck, four-aisle airliner and has one-third more seating capacity than a Boeing 747.

Tekdata has played a vital role in getting the aircraft off the ground - and getting it safely back down - by designing and manufacturing the complex cabling in the actuation system for the flaps. The company's rapid prototyping capabilities were put to the test by a very tight timescale that required the first of four units to be completed in just six months.

The units consist of a locally situated hydraulic pump and motor, controlled by a complex electronic system module. Over one hundred different cable assemblies were created per system.
